Utah’s Bold Move Against Daylight Saving Time: What It Means for Montana
It's that time of year again. It is another year and Daylight Saving Time will be here before you know it. Normally, I would say 'mark it on your calendar'. With technology these days I will say set a reminder.
Montana will be turning our clocks ahead an hour at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday March 9, 2025
For those who don't like time change there may be some hope on the horizon. Elon Musk, who is to head the Department of Government Efficiency, has spoken about possibly doing away with Daylight Saving Time.
Montana has wanted to do away with the time change for while now. Back in 2021 a law was added to the Montana books saying we would do away with it. In 2023, Montana was one of nineteen states that backed the "Sunshine Protection Act" that was introduced by Senator Marco Rubio. Montana is supporting any act to make it happen.

If the change doesn't happen at the federal level, Montana is going to be relying on other states to make it happen. One state appears to be closer to helping us make it happen.
Montana needs at least four other Western States to pass similar legislation, and it may be happening in one of those states
According to the Montana Current, Utah has introduced House Bill 120 which will keep the state on the same time all year long. No more changing the clocks twice a year. It looks like there is a chance that can happen.
That would mean we are one step closer to this becoming a reality in Montana. It doesn't look there are going to be major changes happening by the next round of clock changes this March. But who knows, could this be our last time we "spring forward"? Only time will tell.
